Lighting Cues
2025
In the Lighting Cue paintings, I approach color placement as a way to brainstorm how colored lights could move around a space. The surfaces of these paintings are paper I make, and I paint with water soluble pigments onto the soft surface of the paper before it dries. This painting process lets the pigment settle into the surface of the paper fiber. The tears scattered on these paintings is a result of the drawing process, the wet paper fibers pull apart as I drag paint across the surface. This project grew my curiosity of what the paintings themselves can do versus what they are depicting.
