Together

2024-2025

Together is a project that began with collecting risograph stencil debris from the UT Risography Lab. Works from Together include handmade paper collage with stencil image transfers using a hydraulic press, monoprints created by pushing mounds of stencils through a press bed, a video of stencils scanned as film transparencies, and etchings created by transferring ink from the stencils onto the surface of copper to act as an etching ground. Together is focused on the potential for material to exist in new states. I develop processes with the stencils in new contexts, and see how images operate when they are transferred for methods they are not originally intended for. I consider the stencils as representations of memories – the placement of colors on the stencils indicate where digital images were previously composed and made sense. When I squish debris together in the printing press they lose their original visual imagery and combine to create new information. The stencils are then laid side by side in handmade paper, where the image information becomes reordered into new sequences.
