Flicker
Flicker prints are made with reductively carved woodblock matrices, inked with transparent inks and printed onto paper, window film, duralar, and glassine. I began inking these patterns to make animation frames for a video project, then became interested in the visual effect and optical harshness of the pattern. I formally link the gradient brayer marks in these prints to film sprocket holes. The prints are made to be interchangeable and hung in new groups each time they are installed, the edges connect together to make a larger image from the patterns. In the ink's relationship to the paper, I am seeking a glowing effect as though the prints emit light through or from their marks. 2025-26.Flicker (Entrance) at Visual Arts Center UT Austin, 2026.
